Course information

What Alex will do

The main focus of each course will be on painting the local countryside and the surrounding towns and villages.

The area around our house is mainly farmland and looks a bit like Yorkshire (though it's worth saying the sun shines a bit more often.)

Each day Alex will venture out with you into the countryside or to picturesque local villages with portable easels, painting equipment and sketchbooks. He will give instruction on composition, drawing, underpainting and what materials to use. He will also, importantly, give guidance on how to translate these studies into resolved paintings. These might be undertaken either in situ or back in the studio at the house.

The schedule for painting days will be approximately three hours in the morning and three hours in the afternoon.

Materials

Alex will work with you mainly in acrylic. The studio is equipped with portable easels, chairs and tables. There will be a limited supply of painting materials available for general use (paint, brushes etc), though not enough for everyone. Paper and canvas will be supplied.

Please therefore bring your own basic supplies (acrylic paint, brushes, tear off palettes, pencils, charcoal etc). If this is a problem please let me know in good time and I will buy the relevant materials for you locally.

The images on this page show views of the surrounding countryside plus three local villages, Montjoi, Lauzerte and Castelsagrat.
